Pendant Lights / April 25, 2018 / Rosie Pacheco.
Glass pendants are particularly well suited to a kitchen. Here you can use them over the kitchen island or get mini pendants that are set over the counter tops. These mini pendants work well in a home office too, or over the bed in the master. If you have children, you may want to add pendants over their play area. These will save you a little money on your power bill since your kids can simply turn on the light where they are playing, rather than turning on the main room light, which may use more electricity. If you are putting them in the play area, you may want to go with acrylic lights instead of glass pendant lights. As any parent knows, children can be pretty rambunctious and lights inevitably end up getting in the way of an errant football or flying Barbie. Better to play it safe and get an unbreakable light.
LED bulbs are becoming the more popular choice for pendant lighting. They are perfect for task lighting and they are energy efficient, but they can be more expensive than traditional bulbs. However, LED bulbs also last longer than standard bulbs. The style of the pendant determines the bulb required. Entryways need to have pendant lights seven feet above the floor. A pendant in the dining room needs to be at least 30 inches above the table. Pendants used for a kitchen island need to be 30 to 40 inches above the counter. The height of the tallest person in the home needs to be considered. Make sure all pendants are at least 20 to 25 inches above the top of the tallest person's head.
Why so? To understand this, come out of the box and think outside the decor factor. What do you expect a light to do? You expect it to brighten up the place where it has been installed. If the light has been installed in your patio, you expect it to light up the entire patio, although perhaps not too brightly. If you fix the pendant light in your hall or at your main entrance, you again expect the light to illuminate the entire area with a reasonable brightness.
One of the crucial features of the pendant lights is its versatility. Pendants can often be found in living room, small foyers, kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms and it can suit each space with equal ease. Pendants lights are much different from other types of lights and command the same respect as jewellery. They sparkle, enlighten, and soften a clean, austere environment. In actuality, pendant lights can be every bit as fancy as chandeliers, because one gets pendant lights studded with Swarovski crystals or dangling gemstones. One of the other most important benefits of pendant lights is it never needs re modifications of your existing space like drilling a hole in the ceiling as the case with recessed lights or hammering your walls for those classic wall scones. This drastically reduces the installation time along with peace of mind and yes, brings down your lighting investment. Pendant lighting fixtures do not have the grand scale of a tiered chandelier and are ideal when space and cost is a concern. Wherever space is an issue, mini-pendants can be hung from above, effectively freeing up space in the room for furniture and other things.
